Well, because of my very tight schedule (or rather just an excuse :p ) I didn’t have much time to write the analysis (this blog is created after Bahrain GP). But still late is better than never isn’t it? ;p
So, finally the 2012 season starts and will potentially bring a lot of surprise than last year. We will start the review from…
Australian GP Race Review
Instead of getting in pole position, Lewis Hamilton couldn’t convert it to a win. A great start by Jenson Button makes him the winner for the first series of 2012 which shows Mclaren is still a very strong team to be reckoned with this year. This is also the comeback race for the 2007 WDC Kimi Raikkonen for Lotus F1 team.
Button drove a near-faultless race in which he led from the start and maintained control even during the safety-car deployment between laps 37 and 41. Now Mclaren lead the world championship for constructors, with 40 points. Race Podiums: 1st J Button, 2nd place S Vettel 3rd place L Hamilton
Malaysian GP Race Review
A good solid win by Ferrari in an ‘expected’ condition of heavy rain. By lap six conditions were so bad that the safety car deployed for the first time. The race continued behind the silver Mercedes until lap nine, when it was red flagged. Fernando Alonso managed a win from Sauber Sergio Perez. The Sauber had stellar pace and was chasing Alonso fast near the end, but a slip couple of laps before finish ruin his chance to win the grand prix — this raise speculation whether Perez ordered to lose out against Ferrari by his team. But still, the 22 years old performance is brilliant; maybe next time he is the candidate to replace Felipe Massa at Ferrari?
Alonso’s totally unexpected victory puts him into the lead of the world championship with 35 points to Hamilton’s 30 and Button’s 25, with Webber fourth on 24, Perez fifth on 22 and Vettel on 18. McLaren still lead the constructors’ world championship, with 55 points, with Red Bull second on 42 from Ferrari on 35 and Sauber on 30. Lotus has 16, Force India 9, Williams 8 and Toro Rosso 6. Race Podiums: 1st F Alonso 2nd S Perez 3rd L Hamilton.
Chinese GP Review
A great first win by Rosberg! Meanwhile Kimi had to finished on 14th thanks to the mistake in pit stop strategy – his tyre worn out couple of laps and he went down from 2nd to 12th within two laps 🙁 . A mistake in pitstop for Mclaren team also ruined Button’s chances to pursue Rosberg. A pretty straightforward race by Rosberg from pole. There was intense battle for the podium between nine cars behind Rosberg and thus win by Button and Hamilton.
After the third race of the season, Hamilton leads the world championship with 45 points to Button’s 43, with Fernando Alonso third on 37 after a tough afternoon. In the constructors, McLaren still lead with 88 points to Red Bull’s 64, Ferrari’s 37, Sauber’s 31, Mercedes’ 26 and Lotus’s 24. Race Podiums: 1st N Rosberg 2nd J Button 3rd L Hamilton.
So that’s the first three races of this exciting Formula 1 2012 season. Hopefully the next races will be as much action as these races!
