Formula 1 Spanish GP Review: Finally Maldonado and Williams Done It!!

Posted by & filed under Formula 1 Race, News, Race Reviews.

Well finally, a great first win by Williams and Pastor Maldonado this season! after Hamilton get penalty from yesterday’ qualifying, the battle is quite between Williams Maldonado and Ferrari Alonso. This win makes him the fifth different race winner of the first five races this year. Though this race is not as exciting as in Bahrain — where there was a lot of overtaking — but it’s still a good race in front and middle of the pack.

Pastor Maldonado

From the start Alonso overtake Maldonado for the first place meanwhile Kimi overtake Grosjean for third. since then the first 27 lap is Alonso who is comfortable leads the race. But Maldonado moved ahead after the second round of pit stops, and by then there’s no Alonso’s challenge. After the third stops, however, the two times world champion got his second attempt and the gap lower steadily and by the 48th lap the race was back on, as Alonso never looked more dangerous. On the 57th of the 66 laps he had a little look down the inside in Turn One but thought better of it, and like Lotus’s’ Kimi Raikkonen on Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel in Bahrain, that was all he got. Maldonado held his nerve and as the Ferrari’s tyres started to go away again, he pulled away to win by 3.1s.

As for Kimi, my opinion is he can grab the second place from Alonso if Lotus call him to a pits top one or two laps earlier. At the end the gap is below one second and he’s chasing nearly two second per lap in the last lap.

Rise Me Up, Guys!!

So after the race, Alonso moves up to joint first place in the drivers’ championship with Vettel, both with 61 points. Hamilton’s great damage limitation run keeps him in play with 53 with Raikkonen on 49, Webber 48, Button 45, Rosberg 41, Grosjean 35, Maldonado 29 and Perez 22. In the constructors’ stakes Red Bull have 109 to McLaren’s 98, Lotus’s 84, Ferrari’s 63, Mercedes and Williams on 43 apiece and Sauber on 41. source
