FORMULA 1 BRITISH GRAND PRIX 2012 RACE REVIEW & RESULT

Another race which I didn’t watch in full (no I’m not busy…). In this Mark Webber got his 2nd win of the season by overtaking Fernando Alonso near the end of the race, which in this case shows that the tire wear  strategies is the crucial factor this season with Pirelli tires. Alonso got it very well from the start though, nearly dominating the race. The Ferrari’s pace looks very good also, but not for Lotus and McLaren, especially the latest. Both Mclaren drivers said their cars felt fine but lacked grip. Hamilton led briefly after Alonso’s stop and a 21-lap opening stint on the prime tire, but later dropped away when his final set of primes did not perform to the same level. They fell from second to fourth overall in the constructors’ stakes. The Lotus was fastest in the end of the race but not quite to secure podium position. Kimi has managed only to finish 5th, one position ahead of his teammates.

Webber’s win moves him to 116 points, with Alonso still leading on 129. Behind them, Vettel is now third on 100 from Hamilton on 92 and Raikkonen on 83. Red Bull extends their lead in the constructors’ championship, with 216 points, with both Ferrari and Lotus, on 152 and 144, moving ahead of McLaren on 142.
